I remember Don Rosa, one of the best comic authors say he doesn't like Mickey because he's "too heroic". Most (if not all) of the comics he made were focused on Donald and his family, more notably his uncle Scrooge McDuck. And in the very detailed panels of his comics, you can sometimes spot hidden mickeys drawn in a mocking way. I love his comics so much. When I first read his comics, I was too small to understand that Disney comics has different authors etc. But I remember some comics that I like the most, and when I was older I discovered they're all from the same author. There was something different about his style of drawing and the kinds of stories he told. Each frame is more like a piece of craftsmanship rather than just a tool to tell a simple story. They're very detailed, compared to the other comics. And the stories, while still having a fun element to them, are much more serious, and philosophical. Filled with moments of reflection that you wouldn't necessarily expect in a comic for kids.
Donald Duck vs Mickey. It is a lot like Wolverine vs Cyclops. Donald and Wolverine would be popular in the military because they are tough guys. Mickey and Cyclops are too square and clean
Totally different feeling if you played Kingdom Hearts. His default ai made him stingy with his heals. Goofy would dive on a live grande for you. Meanwhile Donald was casting cure in him self while at 90 % HP. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk, please clap.
5:58 Why was the Donlad Duck the mascot of the service men? Let me guess: He's constant unlucky underdog in his stories, which makes him much easier to relate to average service man. Being the unlucky underdog is kinda the experiance of the average service man.
Donald duck is the first disney character that i've seen. I saw his comic and start frequently borrow it from my cousin ( my parent cant afford to buy the comic). I always thought that donald is the face of disney.
I had a DI. He was tough, a Boston Southie, He was maybe 5'7" but everyone was afraid of him. Sometimes he would yell at us, and I would think of Donald Duck.
Credibility. Donald was the only one with credible fighting spirit, even when things weren't going his way. Things went Mickey's way so often that the audience perception is that he was never genuinely challenged.
Reminder that Donald is cannonically a WW2 Asian theater vet and comics from the 50's feature him getting PTSD attacks from loud noises in the middle of the night and screaming about jap ambushes

At least it's a healthier obsession than World War 2. I'd rather be obsessed with a fictional character than with an awful event

The carrier USS Bunker Hill (CV-17)'s logo was Donald, and I'd always assumed it was something like this.
